This basket would have originally been intended to gather apples or other fruit. The basket is slightly oval with a wrapped reinforced rim where the handle is attached. The simple, rustic handle is not much more than bent wood that was carved so it could be inserted into the rim.We are not certain of the age of this Chinese rattan basket so we are referring to it as vintage. This is still a beautiful example of the skill of basket weaving with a graceful, rustic look.
